The United States international has emerged as a regular presence in Palace’s defence since joining the Premier League club from Bayern Munich in 2022, and his performances have now attracted attention from Serie A.
Tuttosport reported this week that Inter scouts have been following Richards for several months as the Italian club assess players who could become available in future transfer windows.
Richards, 26, has developed into an important part of Crystal Palace’s defence since his move to London. Last season he made 50 appearances in all competitions, scoring twice, while he has already found the net once in six appearances during the current campaign.
His contract with Crystal Palace runs until the summer of 2027.
That agreement gives the Premier League club control over his immediate future, but Inter’s interest comes as the Italian side look to identify potential opportunities ahead of the end of Richards’ current deal.
Tuttosport included the American among a group of players being assessed by Inter Milan as the club plans for future recruitment. The report specifically stated that the Nerazzurri’s scouts have been watching Richards for several months.
Richards began his professional career with FC Dallas before moving to Bayern Munich, where he came through the German club’s system and made first-team appearances. He subsequently spent time on loan at Hoffenheim before joining Palace permanently.
His development in England has also established him as a regular international for the United States.
Richards has won 40 senior caps for his country and scored three goals, having become an increasingly established option in the US defence.
Palace’s current position also gives the player a significant period in which to continue developing his value. The London club finished last season with a European trophy and are now balancing domestic competition with the demands created by their involvement in continental football.
After five league matches this season, Palace sit 15th in the Premier League with four points.
Inter’s interest is therefore at an early monitoring stage rather than an indication that negotiations are underway. Tuttosport’s report nevertheless places Richards on the Italian club’s list as they begin looking beyond their immediate squad requirements.
With his Palace contract running until 2027, any potential move is likely to depend on how both Richards’ situation and Inter’s defensive plans develop over the coming months.
