Yann Bisseck has revealed how impressed he was by Jürgen Klopp’s energy after the Inter defender received his first Germany call-up under the new coach.

The Inter Milan defender was speaking at the Festival dello Sport in Trento after being selected by Klopp for Germany’s Nations League matches, having previously represented the country at youth level.

“Even on the phone he has that energy... today we say ‘aura’. His aura is impressive, when he talks to you, you feel better. He always laughs and gives you energy. And as a coach he knows very well what he is doing. I am very confident that Germany can return to the level we are used to,” Bisseck said.

The 25-year-old revealed that Klopp had contacted him after Inter’s match against Udinese, although the timing initially caught him sleeping.

“I was the day after Udine, but I think I was sleeping. After training I had a short call, I was very, very happy. Returning to the national team at 25 is the right step, but I want to earn more call-ups. Now I have to do my job here at Inter,” he said.

Bisseck has now established himself as an important part of Inter’s defence and recently signed a new contract running until 2031. His return to the Germany squad represents another stage in a rise that has taken him from Denmark to one of Italy’s biggest clubs.

He also revealed that former Cameroon star Samuel Eto’o had tried to convince him to represent Cameroon internationally.

“He wanted me, but I didn't think about playing for Cameroon. I had done all the Germany youth teams and I only had in my head that I wanted to play for Germany,” Bisseck said.

The defender has no regrets about that decision and now wants to build on his first Germany involvement while continuing his development at Inter.

Bisseck also spoke about his ambitions with his club, making clear that European success is the next major target.

“I think we are the strongest in Italy, but it is always easy to talk: we have to prove on the pitch that we are the strongest. And then, in the end: we have to win the Champions League, right? We can say it, we want to win the Champions League, we have been close twice. Once, come on,” he said.

The defender added that he still has plenty to improve despite his growing reputation.

“In everything, I am not a perfect player. Defensive phase, scoring more goals, conceding fewer goals. Everything has to improve: me personally and also the team,” Bisseck said.

His international return and new Inter contract have given the defender a clear platform for the next stage of his career, with Klopp now providing the Germany opportunity he had been waiting for.
