The potential investor is said to be exploring the possibility of acquiring a minority stake from current owners Oaktree, but there is no indication that the discussions have reached the stage of a formal negotiation.
The name associated with the reported interest is Al Mirqab, a Doha-based family office managing the wealth of Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani, widely known as HBJ. The former Qatari prime minister is a cousin of the country’s current emir.
According to Corriere della Sera, contacts between Al Mirqab and Oaktree remain at a preliminary, verbal stage. The report does not establish that an offer has been made or that a transaction is imminent, and the possibility of the approach developing into a formal process remains uncertain.
HBJ has established business interests in Italy, including substantial property investments. Al Mirqab reportedly acquired an 80 per cent stake in a building at Via Monte Napoleone 8 in Milan from French luxury group Kering in April, in a transaction valued at €1.1 billion.
The family office has also been linked to the purchase of Villa Certosa, the Sardinian residence associated with the family of former Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi. The reported price was around €350 million, with the acquisition made through Constellation Hotels, a luxury hospitality business controlled by Al Mirqab.
Those investments have helped fuel speculation about a possible interest in Inter, particularly as the club and city continue work towards a new stadium project involving both Inter and AC Milan. However, the property deals do not in themselves confirm that HBJ intends to invest in the football club.
Oaktree took control of Inter Milan in 2024 after the previous ownership failed to repay a loan secured against the club. Any sale of a minority holding would therefore depend on the current owner’s willingness to relinquish a portion of its interest and on the terms of a potential agreement.
Inter’s financial position could also shape discussions around a possible investment. The club reported revenue of €518 million and a profit of €22.7 million for the 2025-26 season, according to the Corriere report.
For now, Al Mirqab’s reported interest remains exploratory. There is no confirmed deal, and the value Oaktree might seek for a minority stake has not been established publicly.
