Pep Guardiola is expected to return to the Etihad to watch Manchester City face Paris Saint-Germain after publicly reaffirming his support for the club.

Pep Guardiola is expected to return to the Etihad Stadium when Manchester City host Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on October 14.

The former City manager has told senior figures at the club that he would like to attend the fixture as he continues his break from football after leaving his position at the end of last season.

Guardiola is understood to want to be back among people he worked with throughout a decade in Manchester, with the PSG fixture potentially marking his first return to the Etihad since stepping down.

The Spaniard spent 10 seasons as City manager, overseeing the most successful period in the club's history before bringing his tenure to an end.

His return would come at a particularly significant moment for City following the independent commission's findings into the club's alleged breaches of Premier League financial regulations.

The club has denied wrongdoing and lodged an appeal against the commission's decision.

Guardiola has previously maintained that he trusted the information provided to him by City's senior figures throughout the investigation. His latest public message made clear that his relationship with the club has remained unchanged since leaving the manager's position.

“I want every single Manchester City fan across the world to know I am here; more than ever.

“I am, always have been, always will, be behind my club, my owner, my chairman, Ferran (Soriano, CEO), the players, staff, Enzo (Maresca) and you, our unique supporters.

“Let me be clear - we will get through this together. I love you all.”

The Express reports that Guardiola has been spending time in Barcelona after stepping away from the game, but the prospect of watching City against PSG would give him an opportunity to reconnect with the club.

Guardiola's decade in Manchester brought 20 trophies, including multiple Premier League titles and the Champions League, before his departure at the conclusion of last season.

His presence against PSG would therefore carry significance beyond a former manager simply attending a match. It would underline the continuing relationship between Guardiola and the club after his decision to leave the dugout.

City's European meeting with PSG is already one of the most prominent fixtures on their Champions League calendar, but Guardiola's expected appearance would add another storyline to a night likely to attract considerable attention.

For Guardiola, it would be a return to the stadium where he spent the defining years of his managerial career and where he remains closely associated with City's modern era.
