Javi Guerra has confirmed he intends to stay at Valencia and expressed his delight at being included in Spain's pre-World Cup support group β€” a call-up the 23-year-old midfielder described as the fulfilment of a childhood ambition.

Speaking to COPE, Guerra was direct about his future at the club: "I have a contract. I renewed last year and it's clear I want to stay here."

Guerra extended his deal in August 2025, keeping him at Mestalla until June 2029. He made 36 La Liga appearances this season, contributing four goals and six assists, and was the only Valencia player to feature on Luis de la Fuente's 55-man preliminary list ahead of the World Cup.

He was not selected in de la Fuente's final 26-man squad β€” competition for midfield places is exceptionally fierce, with Rodri, Pedri, FabiΓ‘n Ruiz, MartΓn Zubimendi, Gavi, Alex Baena and Mikel Merino among those chosen. Guerra will instead join the squad for the opening week of their training camp at Las Rozas from May 30 to June 4, alongside eight other support players, and is eligible to feature in the warmup fixture against Iraq.

He expressed straightforward joy at the experience: "Happy, because in the end it's a dream I've had since I was small and I'm going to enjoy it."

On Spain's chances at the tournament, Guerra placed his country among the clear favourites.

"I think they have a great group, especially for what they've shown since the Euros β€” the level they demonstrated was very high. They are one of the favourites, if not the favourite, and I hope they bring the World Cup home."

Spain, the reigning European champions, are in a group with Germany and two other nations. De la Fuente's side enter as one of the pre-tournament favourites alongside Argentina, France and Brazil.

Guerra's Valencia career has been built entirely from within. He came through the academy from 2019 and has not played for any other senior club, making his first-team debut in 2023. In a season where Valencia narrowly missed European qualification, he was arguably their most consistent performer.
