Safi declared the deal agreed at a press conference, saying: "We have signed a four-year agreement with Mason Greenwood. He has proven himself at the highest level of European football. He has agreed to join Fenerbahçe during the most valuable and productive years of his career."
Fabrizio Romano confirmed the claim had been made by Safi, noting that Greenwood's social media activity following the announcement amounted to a further indication of intent.
Whether the deal can be formalised depends on Safi winning Sunday's Fenerbahçe presidential election — a contest against incumbent Aziz Yıldırım, for whom Greenwood is also said to be the top transfer target.
Marseille are demanding approximately €55m for Greenwood and need to raise funds before June 30 to comply with financial regulations. AS Roma, who had identified Greenwood as their primary attacking midfielder target, opened with a bid of approximately €40m — well short of the asking price. The Fenerbahçe route now represents a more advanced threat to Roma's recruitment strategy.
Manchester United sold Greenwood to Marseille in the summer of 2024 for approximately €27.6m fixed plus €4m in add-ons, retaining a 50 per cent sell-on clause. At €55m, a deal of that scale would generate approximately €13.7m for United — a significant financial benefit to a club actively pursuing multiple signings this summer.
