The 31-year-old midfielder has been without a club since leaving Bayern Munich as a free agent this summer, the first time in his career he has found himself in that position.
Early speculation linked him with a host of Europe's biggest clubs, but weeks on, no deal has materialised, and time is starting to run short with less than two weeks left before the transfer window closes.
Serie A interest, once seen as the likeliest destination, has cooled considerably.
"Juventus are focused on other positions, like goalkeeper and centre-back," Di Marzio told Wettfreunde.de. "Goretzka is on their list, but they need to sell players before they can bring in new ones.
"AC Milan have also been linked with him. But I think he could end up moving to Turkey in the end, because a lot of money is being paid there for free agents. It wouldn't surprise me if he moves to the Süper Lig."
Barcelona, Napoli, Inter Milan and even Arsenal have all been credited with interest in the 73-cap Germany international at various points this summer, and Goretzka has held talks with several clubs, but has turned down multiple approaches and offers along the way.
The stumbling block, in each case, appears to be financial: Goretzka's representatives are said to be seeking a net annual salary of around €7m, along with a signing bonus in the region of €10m, terms several interested clubs have reportedly found either unworkable or excessive.
Even Di Marzio, who tracks the situation closely, admits the impasse is unusual for a player of Goretzka's stature.
"It's really strange that he's without a contract, because he's an incredible player," he said.
As a free agent, Goretzka retains the option of signing for a new club even after the deadline passes, though by that point most sides will already have finalised their squad plans for the season.
