Fulham reverse course and push to buy Kusi-Asare below loan option price

Fulham have reversed their position on striker Jonah Kusi-Asare and are now pushing to sign the 18-year-old permanently from Bayern Munich, making a bid below the €12 million purchase option included in his loan agreement.

According to Sky Germany, Fulham are preparing an offer at a reduced fee following the expiry of his contract at Bayern Munich, which ran only until this summer. The player's new deal was expected to be with Bayern, but the south London club have identified an opportunity to negotiate a lower price before the formal window opens.

Kusi-Asare joined Fulham in September 2025 on a season-long loan, with the club paying a €4 million loan fee and holding an option to buy permanently for €12 million. Bayern retained a buy-back clause. At the time, TalkSPORT reported Fulham were planning to return the striker to Bavaria at the end of the loan.

Sky Germany reports that Fulham have now changed position entirely.

Kusi-Asare, born in Stockholm and raised within AIK's youth system, became the youngest player to appear in the Swedish top flight when he made his debut for AIK shortly after his 16th birthday in 2023. Bayern Munich paid €3.5 million to sign him in February 2024, and he made his Bundesliga debut as a substitute for Harry Kane in April 2025. He was loaned to Fulham after Bayern signed Nicolas Jackson on loan from Chelsea with an obligation to buy permanently.

His Premier League loan season was modest. Kusi-Asare made seven top-flight substitute appearances and played in three cup matches for Fulham — ten competitive games in total, with no goals or assists. He stands at 6ft 5in and offers a physical aerial presence that current Fulham manager Álvaro Arbeloa, who is in discussions to take charge, would likely value.

Raúl Jiménez, 35, has left Fulham on a free transfer following the expiry of his contract at Craven Cottage, leaving the club with a gap at senior striker. That departure has made the Kusi-Asare pursuit considerably more logical from Fulham's perspective.

The buy-back clause Bayern hold means any permanent deal would need to include that provision. But with Kusi-Asare's original contract at Munich having expired, the fee dynamic has shifted in Fulham's favour.
