Frankfurt face exodus as Brown deal nears and Wahi case clouds the picture

Eintracht Frankfurt

Eintracht Frankfurt face a busy summer of exits, with Nathaniel Brown's €55 million Bayern move close and the Elye Wahi disciplinary case threatening to complicate their efforts to balance the books.

Eintracht Frankfurt are bracing for a summer of substantial change, with multiple first-team departures taking shape and sporting director Markus Krösche under pressure to generate a significant transfer surplus to cover the club's financial obligations.

The most advanced exit involves left-back Brown, 22, who is on the verge of a €55 million move to Bayern Munich, with a medical and contract signing potentially completing during the World Cup while Brown is on Germany duty. The deal represents a remarkable return on Frankfurt's €3.5 million outlay when they signed him from Nürnberg two years ago.

Centre-back Hrvoje Smolcic, 25, will not return to Frankfurt. The Croatian has signed for Turkish Süper Lig promoted side Çorum FK for between €1 and €1.5 million, while the same club is understood to have an interest in striker Michy Batshuayi, 32, who could leave without a fee.

Two further deals are taking shape domestically. Right-back Elias Baum, 20, is attracting interest from several Bundesliga rivals, with a fee of €3-5 million expected. Midfielder Junior Dina Ebimbe, 25, is the subject of a negotiation with Schalke, who have offered €1 million while Frankfurt are holding out for close to €3 million.

The situation around Ivory Coast striker Wahi, 23, is the most delicate. The source of that delicacy is an allegation that the forward deliberately collected a yellow card during the World Cup — a charge that, if proven, could make it impossible to recoup the €26 million Frankfurt paid for him.

A clutch of other players can depart if the right offers arrive. Arthur Theate, 26 (€20 million), Hugo Larsson, 21 (€40 million), Can Uzun, 20 (€60 million), Jean-Mattéo Bahoya, 21 (€40 million) and Noël Futkeu, 23 (€10 million) are all available at those valuations.
