Hansi Flick conceded Barcelona's pursuit of a historic 100-point season is finished after his heavily rotated side fell 1-0 to relegation-threatened Deportivo Alavés at the Estadio de Mendizorroza, ending an 11-game winning run.

Ibrahim Diabate scored on the stroke of half-time, heading in from a corner scramble to give Alavés a result that lifted them out of the bottom three. Flick made eight changes from the El Clásico XI that clinched back-to-back titles with a 2-0 win over Real Madrid on Sunday — Barcelona's second straight league title and their 29th in total.

The champion's title celebrations this week, which ran deep into the night at the Nou Camp, were visible in the performance. Barcelona failed to register a single shot on target and managed an xG of just 0.59 throughout.

"Today I saw the team motivated, they did good things. I gave minutes to those who had played less — Bernal, Espart. In the first half we controlled the match, but they are fighting to stay in the first division. We tried to control the game, but in attack we were not like other times. We wanted to win, but it was not possible. We will not achieve the 100-point league."

Flick highlighted defender Álvaro Cortés, who made his senior debut in central defence.

"He did very well, he was good against big forwards, I saw him confident with the ball. He gives everything in training and deserves to play."

On Barcelona's academy connection and the evening's broader significance for the cantera.

"The players love Barça and want to play here, and coaches also want to be at Barcelona. There is a special connection in the La Masia players, and that is fantastic."

Asked about Florentino Pérez's press conference on Tuesday, in which the Real Madrid president made a series of inflammatory claims about Barcelona and the Negreira case, Flick was brief.

"It is not worth answering."

Wojciech Szczesny started in goal in place of Joan García, a decision Flick addressed directly.

"Today we decided who played — we gave rest to Joan García, who is the number one and will return to play."

Lamine Yamal was absent with a muscle injury and will not play again this season. Barcelona can now finish on a maximum of 97 points — three short of the record jointly held by Tito Vilanova's 2012-13 Barça and José Mourinho's Real Madrid from the previous season. Two games remain, away at Real Betis and then Valencia.
