Barcelona and PSG have spent several days negotiating the Valencia-born forward's transfer, with discussions handled discreetly between the two clubs' sporting directors, Deco and Luis Campos, who share a close friendship.
While attention elsewhere at Barcelona has been focused on the situations involving Julián Álvarez, Rodri and Ronald Araújo, Torres's departure has quietly moved closer to completion in the background.
Officially, Barcelona were due to hold a meeting with the player next Wednesday, the date set for Spain's World Cup-winning internationals to rejoin first-team training, but that meeting is not expected to be necessary after Torres's representatives informed the club of his wish to leave for Paris.
The forward has already reached an agreement with PSG on personal terms, committing to a four-year contract, leaving only the transfer fee to be finalised between the two clubs. Positions are said to be close, with an agreement possible within days, and all parties keen for the deal to be wrapped up before Wednesday so Torres does not need to report back for training.
PSG are expected to pay Barcelona a fee in the region of €50m, with the final figure and any performance-related add-ons still being negotiated.
Speculation about a move to Paris first emerged during the World Cup, though neither PSG nor the player confirmed anything at the time. Torres addressed his future last week during an interview in the United States, where he spent several days on promotional commitments, leaving the door open to an exit.
"I have a contract with Barça, but... in football you never know. I'm waiting to make the right decision; I still don't know," he said, before adding a pointed remark about his contract situation, which runs out in a year without an extension yet offered.
"They have to prove they want me, that they come to negotiate and, in the end, everything will work out."
Barcelona have offered little clarity on the matter since, with head coach Hansi Flick limiting himself to saying: "We'll see what happens."
The club's position for now remains that any decision should wait until Wednesday, even as talks have continued regardless.
