Bruno Fernandes has told Manchester United teammates he intends to stay at Old Trafford this summer, ending speculation over the future of the club captain ahead of the new season.

TalkSPORT report that while Fernandes has not entered official discussions with United regarding his contract, he has already made his intentions clear to those in his inner circle at the club.

The 31-year-old had previously been the subject of serious interest from Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal, with his representative Miguel Pinho holding talks over a potential £100m move last year. Manchester United did not stand in the way of a potential departure, but Fernandes ultimately decided against the transfer following conversations with his family.

The Portugal international subsequently produced the finest season of his United career, registering 21 Premier League assists — surpassing the all-time single-season record previously shared by Kevin De Bruyne and Thierry Henry.

His decision to remain gives United considerable stability heading into the new campaign. Fernandes has been a central figure in every significant moment at the club in recent seasons, and his continued presence will be a significant asset as United look to close the gap on the division's top sides.

The captain is currently representing Portugal at the World Cup, where any contract discussions are on hold until after the tournament. United will be hoping his good form in the summer's competition translates into another strong league campaign.

The news comes at a time when United are actively strengthening other areas of the squad, with midfield additions still being considered despite Fernandes' confirmed stay. His experience and output make him an irreplaceable figure in Ruben Amorim's setup, and the clarity over his future allows the club to plan with certainty around him for the campaign ahead.
