Manchester United’s poor run has prompted discussion about Carrick’s position, with Hürzeler among the managers mentioned as a possible successor. The Brighton boss, however, said he had no intention of allowing the rumours to distract him from his current responsibilities.
“I am fully focused on my work here,” Hürzeler said.
The German added that Brighton’s demanding schedule left little time to consider speculation about his future.
“I don’t have time to think about these rumours, because we play every three days.
“On top of that, I have great respect for Michael Carrick and what he has achieved at Manchester United over the past season.
“He is a fantastic person with a strong personality. There is not much more to say about that,” he said at a press conference.
The comments came as United faced increasing scrutiny following a difficult start to their campaign. The club had fallen to 13th in the Premier League table, while defeats to Atlético Madrid and Como in the Champions League added to the pressure surrounding Carrick.
Hürzeler’s response was not an endorsement of United’s current situation, but a clear refusal to become involved in the conversation about their managerial position. His focus remains on Brighton, who were third in the league at the time of the report.
The Seagulls have built a strong position under Hürzeler, whose work has made him a subject of interest whenever larger clubs are linked with potential managerial changes. That attention has not altered his public stance: he is concentrating on the team he already manages.
Brighton face a demanding test at Liverpool in their next Premier League fixture, with Hürzeler’s side looking to maintain their position near the top of the table. The schedule leaves little room for outside distractions, as he emphasised.
United, meanwhile, must decide how to respond to their results on the pitch rather than rely on speculation about possible replacements. Carrick’s record from the previous season has been cited in the debate, and Hürzeler specifically acknowledged what the United manager had achieved.
For now, the Brighton boss has offered no encouragement to the rumours. His comments underline his commitment to the work at Brighton and his reluctance to discuss another club’s managerial uncertainty.
