Manchester United will keep Michael Carrick in charge for Sunday’s Premier League meeting with Bournemouth despite growing pressure after the 4-1 defeat by Como.

The result in the Champions League was another setback for a side that have managed only two wins in 11 matches across all competitions this season. Carrick is expected to lead training and face the media before Bournemouth visit Old Trafford, with no immediate change planned.

The decision gives Carrick another opportunity to arrest United’s slide, but does not settle questions about his future. Sky Sports reports concern has increased among senior figures and Sunday’s performance could influence what happens next.

Carrick was openly critical of his team after the Como loss, saying the manner of the display had been harder to accept than the scoreline alone.

“We might win, we might lose, but the way we went about it tonight, I wouldn't say everyone, but the way we went about it in some ways tonight wasn't acceptable. And I just wanted to let the fans know that I feel for them, for sure.

“It wasn't just the goals, if I'm totally honest. It was the manner and the way we played at times, in the way we went about it, that was the difficult thing to watch for me.

“It's not about playing for me, it's about playing for this football club. It's the responsibility that comes with being in the position; I'm responsible for the football club and the supporters.

“I'm giving my best, absolute best all the time, I care about it. My whole life's wrapped around it. I genuinely give everything that I possibly can.”

His comments came amid a public disagreement with captain Bruno Fernandes, who questioned aspects of Manchester United’s approach after the defeat. The tension has added to the scrutiny of a team struggling to produce consistent performances.

Julian Nagelsmann is among the names being discussed should United decide to make a change. The former Germany and Bayern Munich manager is reportedly open to an approach, although any move remains hypothetical while Carrick stays in charge.

For now, the focus is Bournemouth. Carrick has the chance to respond on the pitch, but the result at Old Trafford is likely to shape the debate over his future.
