Gaspart revealed he still keeps the letter declaring him persona non grata at the Santiago Bernabéu at home — framed like a diploma.
Gaspart, who served as Barcelona president between 2000 and 2003, appeared on TVE programme No s'ha parlat prou and delivered a characteristically unfiltered assessment of his old rival.
"In the personal sphere, Florentino is a great guy. In the professional sphere, he is exceptional, extraordinary. In the sporting sphere, he is a cheat."
The persona non grata designation arose from comments Gaspart made during a visit to the Bernabéu about the absence of women in the directors' box. He claimed the only woman present was the one responsible for the bathrooms. The remark caused a furore and Florentino Pérez called him within hours.
"The wives of the directors had warned their husbands that if I entered the box again, they would not be having dinner at home."
A formal letter from Real Madrid followed. Gaspart said he has kept it at home ever since.
"I keep it as if it were a diploma."
He also revisited the night that defined his presidency — the evening in 2000 when Luís Figo, then the best player in Spanish football, called him immediately after Gaspart had been elected to tell him what had happened.
"Figo called me that same night and told me his representative had signed a document with Real Madrid. If he did not sign for them, he had to pay 500 million pesetas. He asked me for a bank guarantee to block the operation."
Gaspart refused.
"Imagine I give him the guarantee and he loses. I would not be sitting here today. The Barcelona members would have come after me thinking the club was paying Madrid's fees."
He called Pérez's move a masterstroke — but also illegal. He said it was a case Barcelona would have won in court, but Figo was too afraid of the consequences to call the bluff.
Twenty-five years on, Gaspart still has the letter. And he still has the opinion.
