Steele, speaking on BBC Sport, confirmed the 27-year-old Swede has been on Premier League radar since January, with two clubs pursuing him as a potential second-choice option.
"He is definitely worth between £6 and £10 million in the current climate. Two Premier League clubs have been chasing him since January, but as a number two. If he does well at the World Cup it will only help."
Zetterström joined Derby from Djurgårdens IF in August 2024 and immediately established himself as John Eustace's first choice between the sticks. He made 33 Championship appearances this season — having missed a significant portion of the campaign between February and March with a viral illness that head coach Eustace described as a worrying period for the player.
Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest are among the clubs that have been previously linked with an interest, though Steele declined to name the specific clubs currently in pursuit.
Derby are understood to be reluctant to sell. The club placed a significant fee on Zetterström's head when interest first emerged in January and have been exploring whether a contract extension is possible. His current deal runs until the summer of 2027.
Zetterström earned a late call-up to the Sweden squad for the World Cup qualifying campaign and played the final group stage match against Slovenia. He missed the playoff fixtures against Ukraine and Poland through illness — the same health issue that disrupted his club form during the season.
With the World Cup now approaching, his performances on the international stage are expected to sharpen Premier League attention further. At 6ft 6in and with two full Championship seasons behind him, he represents a physically imposing and technically assured option for clubs seeking backup at the highest level.
