The Sweden international has not played for club or country since May 2025 after suffering a complicated kneecap injury that required two operations over a 10-month period.
Kulusevski had recently returned to first-team training before another setback temporarily interrupted his progress, but the winger has since stepped up his rehabilitation.
Last week, he took part in an 11-a-side game at Tottenham’s Hotspur Way training ground, a significant milestone after more than 500 days away from competitive football.
The former Juventus winger played in a team made up of Tottenham first-team players against an opposing side containing Under-21 and Under-18 players.
It is not known how many minutes Kulusevski played or whether he was able to complete the session without restriction, but his involvement represents a major stage in his recovery.
Tottenham are continuing to manage the 26-year-old carefully as he builds the fitness required for a competitive return.
Kulusevski has endured a difficult rehabilitation, with the initial injury followed by two surgeries and a setback after his first return to team training.
His eventual comeback will also come under a new head coach, with Roberto De Zerbi now responsible for overseeing his return to the Tottenham first team.
There is no confirmed date for Kulusevski’s competitive comeback, and Tottenham are unlikely to rush him into action after such a lengthy absence.
The club have taken a more cautious approach to injuries after two difficult seasons in which fitness problems repeatedly disrupted their campaigns.
Kulusevski’s return to full training therefore represents progress rather than confirmation that he will immediately be available for selection.
However, his participation in a full 11-a-side match is the clearest indication yet that the Sweden international is moving towards a return.
After more than 500 days away from competitive football, Tottenham will now hope Kulusevski can complete the final stages of his rehabilitation and eventually make his first appearance under De Zerbi.
