Barcelona sporting director Deco has travelled to London to meet with the representatives of Chelsea striker Joao Pedro, stepping up the Catalan club's pursuit of the Brazilian forward ahead of the summer transfer window.

The visit, reported by Spanish outlets Sport and Mundo Deportivo, coincides with this weekend's FA Cup final at Wembley, where Chelsea face Manchester City. Deco, a former Chelsea midfielder himself, is expected to attend the match and a face-to-face meeting with Pedro's agent has already taken place in the capital.

Pedro, 24, joined Chelsea from Brighton & Hove Albion a year ago and has delivered 20 goals in his debut campaign for the club. The Brazilian has been one of Chelsea's standout performers and is under contract at Stamford Bridge until 2033.

Chelsea have made their position clear โ€” they have no desire to sell. Multiple reports indicate the club view Pedro as central to their project and have communicated as much to Barcelona directly. Any deal would require a fee of at least 100 million euros, a figure that creates obvious complications for a Barcelona side operating under significant financial constraints.

The context behind Deco's move to London is the imminent departure of Robert Lewandowski. Barcelona confirmed the Polish striker's exit via a social media announcement in the days before the final. His replacement has become the club's most pressing summer priority.

Julian Alvarez of Atletico Madrid was Deco's initial first choice, but the asking price โ€” understood to be in excess of 120 million euros โ€” has proved prohibitive. Barcelona have pivoted to Pedro as the most viable alternative, with the Brazilian now described by Mundo Deportivo as the club's number one objective.

Fabrizio Romano has played down the prospect of a deal, noting that Chelsea consider Pedro integral to their plans. Whether Pedro himself would push for a move remains the unknown variable.

Marcus Rashford remains on Barcelona's radar alongside the Pedro pursuit, though the club's financial position means they are looking to structure any deal with Manchester United at a significantly reduced cost.
