Crystal Palace head scout in the Americas Alessandro Brito confirmed that neither player has reached the stage of formal negotiations, but both remain on the club’s radar.
“No, they didn’t get to the point of happening,” Brito said when asked about possible talks for the Brazilian midfielders.
That does not mean Palace have ended their interest.
“They remain under our monitoring,” Brito told ESPN Brasil. “There is a need for us in that position, so we’ve been following some players who stand out there.”
“They are, yes, on a broad monitoring list that we’ve been following game by game.”
Andre has previously been a significant focus for Palace’s scouting operation, with the club sending representatives to watch the Corinthians midfielder in Brazil.
Danilo has not previously been as strongly associated with a move to Selhurst Park, although his performances have attracted attention elsewhere and he has previously been linked with Newcastle.
Brito’s comments put both players in the same wider group of midfielders being assessed by Palace as they consider how to strengthen the position.
The scout also explained why technical qualities can be as important as raw athleticism when Palace assess players for a potential move to England.
“The difference with this type of player is that he isn’t quick in physical terms, but he makes the game quick,” Brito said.
“He doesn’t necessarily need that physical side, but the way he acts is his essence. He’s the guy who can develop the game with one touch, two touches, and he makes the game quick.”
“So that can be a difference in the league.”
Brito has particular knowledge of Danilo, having previously been involved in his move to Botafogo from Nottingham Forest following the midfielder’s spell in England.
For Andre, Palace’s interest dates back further, while Danilo’s inclusion shows the breadth of the club’s current scouting work in Brazil.
Neither player is currently the subject of a Palace negotiation, according to Brito, but both remain under observation.
The club’s need in midfield could ultimately lead to further discussions, with Palace continuing to assess their options before deciding whether to turn any of their scouting interest into a formal approach.
