Como came from behind to beat Torino 3-1 in Serie A, scoring three times in the final stages after Ché Adams had given the hosts the lead.

Jacobo Ramón, Nico Paz and Martin Baturina found the net to complete the turnaround at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino.

Adams put Torino ahead in the 25th minute, but Ramón equalised in the 81st before Paz struck six minutes later. Baturina then sealed the victory in stoppage time, leaving Como head coach Cesc Fàbregas delighted with his team’s response.

“Two shots against the woodwork, a penalty that was not given and plenty of chances, yet we were 1-0 down,” Fàbregas said. “It depends on how you look at it. I saw a Como team with desire. Last year, we would not have won this match.”

The Spaniard was particularly pleased with how his players responded to Torino’s defensive shape.

“They defended in a 5-3-2 and waited for us, so you could not always play through the middle; you had to use the wider areas,” he explained. “We understood the game well, did not give the ball away cheaply and filled the penalty area properly. We were patient and courageous without getting frustrated.”

Fàbregas also highlighted the significance of his side continuing to attack after taking the lead.

“Sometimes you make it 2-1 and then sit back. We kept pressing and scored the third,” he said. “It is good to see the team playing like this.”

Torino coach Ignazio Abate was frustrated by the result, but believed his players had followed the intended plan for much of the contest.

“When you lose, you are always angry. First of all, because of the result, but we played the game we needed to play,” Abate said. “We defended in a mid-block and then dropped a little too deep. Before the goal, Como had not created any particularly big chances.”

Abate acknowledged that Torino needed to improve their possession if they were to turn a disciplined defensive performance into a positive result.

“Playing like that, we needed to take the next step, which is managing the ball,” he said. “We have to be better and more willing to keep possession. Otherwise, if you only think about defending, it becomes difficult. But we also counter-attacked well.”

Despite the defeat, Abate took encouragement from his side’s organisation and attacking opportunities.

“We faced a difficult opponent, but we were organised defensively and showed quality in the first half-hour,” he said. “The scoreline is too harsh. We had important chances to score.”

However, Como’s quality proved decisive late on. Fàbregas praised his players’ maturity and their ability to make better decisions than they had in previous seasons.

“Last year, we would just cross the ball and that did not make us dangerous,” he said. “The players have grown, and it is a process.”

Como’s comeback secured three valuable points, while Abate was left to focus on recovery and preparation for the next match against Frosinone.
