At Forest, manager Oliver Glasner rates Delap highly enough that he is said to have raised the possibility with Forest's board directly, and finances are unlikely to be the sticking point: owner Evangelos Marinakis has repeatedly shown a willingness to fund the deals his manager wants.
Everton's interest predates Delap's Chelsea switch entirely — David Moyes tried and failed to sign him from Ipswich last summer — and with the Toffees still short of firepower up front, he is viewed as a ready-made focal point at Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Leeds, meanwhile, want him as competition for Dominic Calvert-Lewin, though a deal is regarded as a stretch after the club committed roughly £40 million to goalkeeper James Trafford from Manchester City last week.
Delap's fall from priority signing to makeweight has been swift. Chelsea triggered his £30 million release clause from relegated Ipswich only last summer, but he managed just two goals in 42 appearances across all competitions as Enzo Maresca, and now Alonso, preferred other options in attack.
Chelsea's pursuit of Brighton's Danny Welbeck as cover for João Pedro is understood to have been the final signal that Delap's Stamford Bridge career is over, with the west London club needing further outgoing sales before committing to fresh business of their own.
Chelsea have already recouped roughly £120 million from departures this summer, on top of nearly £300 million banked last year, and that figure could rise toward £160 million as more exits are finalised — funding that continues to underwrite the scale of Alonso's rebuilding project since he replaced Liam Rosenior at Stamford Bridge earlier this month.
Manchester United and Newcastle have also been credited with renewed interest in Delap in recent days, though Everton remain seen as front-runners given the promise of regular football that has so far eluded him in west London.
