Hazard established himself as one of his generation's leading players during his time at Chelsea before injuries severely disrupted his spell at Real Madrid. His latest comments, however, concern a decision he made much earlier in his career.
The former Belgium international said PSG attempted to persuade him to move to Paris almost every summer while he was at Chelsea.
“PSG tried to pressure me almost every summer while I was at Chelsea, but I always told them that Lille was my club in France,” Hazard explained.
“I didn't want to play for another French club after leaving Lille.”
Hazard joined Lille as a teenager and went on to become one of the club's most important players before moving to Chelsea in 2012.
Even the financial appeal of a move to PSG would not have changed his mind, according to Hazard.
“Even if PSG had offered me a blank cheque, I still wouldn't have gone there,” he said.
“Money was never enough to make me betray the connection I had with Lille.”
Hazard's comments underline the importance he placed on his relationship with Lille when PSG were attempting to establish themselves as one of Europe's major clubs.
Rather than return to France with another side, the Belgian chose to continue his career abroad, eventually spending seven seasons at Chelsea before his €100 million move to Real Madrid in 2019.
His decision meant PSG repeatedly missed out on a player who had become one of European football's most sought-after attackers, despite Hazard acknowledging that the Paris club had pursued him consistently during his Chelsea years.
