The 18-year-old forward was absent from Burnleyâs squad for Tuesdayâs 2-2 draw with Charlton Athletic, despite making his comeback as a substitute against Watford three days earlier.
Satpaev joined Burnley on loan from Chelsea and had been recovering from an injury sustained in September. His return against Watford suggested he was approaching full availability, but Chelsea intervened before the Charlton fixture.
âChelsea gave him no permission to play because he had a serious injury, and they managed his workload in collaboration with our medical staff. But they told us that he could not play,â Hayen said after the draw.
The Burnley manager was asked whether it was frustrating that Chelsea could influence when a player on loan was available for selection.
âYes, but it is also part of the agreement that if they get injured, they go to their own medical team and work together with our medical staff. So we were aware of that,â Hayen said.
The comments highlight the arrangements between parent clubs and loan destinations when players are recovering from injuries. Although Satpaev is playing for Burnley this season, Chelsea retain an interest in his fitness and the management of his workload.
The Kazakhstan international had missed several weeks after his September injury before returning against Watford. His absence from the Charlton match therefore came as a setback for Burnley, who had hoped to continue building his involvement following his recovery.
Hayen nevertheless indicated that the teenager should soon be available again, saying Satpaev was expected to be ready for Friday eveningâs match against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The forward has joined Burnley as a promising young attacking option, and his development will depend on regaining match fitness while managing the demands of regular senior football.
Burnley had to settle for a point against Charlton after conceding a late equaliser at Turf Moor. Jacob Bruun Larsen opened the scoring before Kayne Ramsay levelled for the visitors. Loum Tchaounaâs side regained the lead through Largie Ramazani, but Charlton substitute Ivan Mesik scored in stoppage time to secure a 2-2 draw.
The result denied Burnley victory despite their two goals, while the absence of Satpaev left Hayen without another potential attacking option.
The managerâs comments made clear that Burnley understood the medical arrangement attached to the loan, even if the decision meant the club could not select the teenager for a match so soon after his return.
Satpaevâs possible availability against Wolves will give Burnley an opportunity to bring him back into contention, provided his fitness and the agreed medical management allow him to play.
