Arsenal scored three times in seven minutes to secure a 3-0 Champions League victory, with Jurrien Timber opening the scoring before Eze and Bukayo Saka added further goals. It was Eze’s first goal of the campaign.
The England international said the quality and movement around him meant opportunities could arrive from several directions, requiring attackers to remain alert and find the right spaces.
“It’s fun!” Eze said.
“You know that opportunities are coming all over the place, so you’ve just got to be ready, be in the right places, be in the right spaces to get on the end of stuff. It’s a fun team to play in!
“It was an enjoyable performance from all of us. We dominated the game, and we enjoy winning, so that’s the main thing.
“I always want to play, always want to score, and that’s the mentality — I’ll keep pushing and keep working.”
Arsenal had to be patient before their dominance was reflected on the scoreboard. Lille held firm during a goalless first half, but Timber broke the deadlock after the hour mark and Eze struck three minutes later. Saka then completed the scoring in the 71st minute.
Eze said Arteta’s half-time message was largely about maintaining the approach that had created opportunities, with some adjustments intended to help Arsenal take greater control.
“I think it was just more of the same. There were slight details that we obviously tweaked and changed to give us a bit more dominance, but it was more of the same.
“We were doing a lot in the first half as well, and I think the players that came on as well really helped us to push on. That was an important impact.”
Arteta’s substitutions made a decisive contribution to the result. Saka, Martin Ødegaard and Kai Havertz were introduced as Arsenal looked to turn their territorial advantage into goals, with the changes helping the hosts finish strongly.
The victory gave Arsenal two wins from their opening two Champions League matches and provided another opportunity for Eze to settle into the team’s attacking structure.
Next comes a demanding trip to Bayern Munich, a fixture the forward is looking forward to as Arsenal prepare to test themselves against another of Europe’s major clubs.
“Playing big clubs like Bayern is always fun. It’s always something you want to be doing, you want to be competing, so for sure, I’ll enjoy that when it comes.”
