Casadó trains apart from Barcelona squad as exit edges closer

Marc Casadó has now spent ten days training separately from the rest of Barcelona's first-team squad as the club works to protect his value ahead of an expected exit.

The Catalan midfielder no longer features in Hansi Flick's plans for the season and was left out of the squad for the club's pre-season triangular against Udinese and Nottingham Forest in Udine, a decision that accelerated speculation over his future.

Barcelona moved players in Casadó's position to train apart from the main group after winger Roony Bardghji ruptured his cruciate ligament in training just as the club were finalising his own departure, a serious injury that scuppered the move and cost the club financially.

To avoid a repeat, Barcelona decided any player already earmarked for the exit door would train separately from the rest of the first team.

Casadó is one of several players affected, alongside Tommy Marqués, since departed for Braga, Jofre Torrents, now at Ajax, Yaakobishvili, who has joined Almería, and Guille and Toni Fernández, both of whom are also still awaiting a move.

Casadó reportedly did not take the decision well, having wanted the chance to fight for a route back into Flick's plans rather than train in isolation.

He received a further unambiguous signal of his situation this week when his number 17 shirt was reassigned to Anthony Gordon, the England winger signed from Newcastle United this summer, leaving Casadó without a squad number entirely.

The 22-year-old, a graduate of La Masia who signed a contract extension through 2028 and won the league, Copa del Rey and Spanish Super Cup last season, has drawn interest from Saudi side Al-Hilal, with a fee in the region of €40 million previously mooted, as well as from Al-Ahli.

Despite the pressure to move on, Casadó is understood to be in no rush to commit to a next club and wants to weigh his options fully before making a final decision, even as Barcelona look to bank funds from his sale to help finance moves for Rodri Hernández and Julián Álvarez before the window closes.
