Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of Sunday's home game against Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford, Carrick was asked specifically about Shea Lacey, a teenager who has attracted attention as a player close to a first-team breakthrough.
"One hundred per cent. It's something we would love to happen and not so much just talking about Shea, but I think in terms of getting the younger players involved. They're heavily involved in and around the group. They have been all the time anyway."
He flagged the scheduling of the under-21 fixture as a factor in how he manages the squad across the coming week, before making clear the Brighton game would be reassessed accordingly.
"It's important we finish strong as well, so we've got responsibilities to do that as well. We've got to get the balance right, but it's a massive part of it for me and for this football club — to try and bring the younger players on and give them opportunities to see what they can do."
Carrick was also asked about Nottingham Forest midfielder Elliot Anderson, whose path through the academy at Newcastle United connects him with the interim manager's own roots in Wallsend.
He was measured in his response, acknowledging Forest's quality while focusing on the challenge they present on Sunday.
"He's done well. I think he offers so much and they've got a really talented team and a dangerous team. They've had a good season to get to the Europa League semi-finals and just fall short. You can see he's an important part of their team."
Carrick took charge of United in January on an interim basis and has guided the club to a third-place Premier League finish. His own future beyond the end of the season remains unresolved.
