Speaking on Sky Sport's studio coverage, the veteran former coach was full of praise for the way Cesc Fabregas's side approached their historic European debut.
"Como entertains me, they're the team I prefer to watch play. Como play forward, everyone puts in the effort and runs," Capello said.
He was more critical, though, of Nico Paz's individual performance.
"I didn't like him that much tonight, he's not yet at full physical condition and doesn't have the fluidity of movement he needs," Capello said. "When he has that physical condition, he shows everything he's capable of. Tonight, though, Nico Paz played at 75 per cent of what he can do."
Capello also weighed in on the now-familiar post-match huddle Fabregas holds with his players at full time, offering a lighter note of criticism.
"Those are lovely scenes, but I don't understand why they do them in the middle of the pitch. It seems like a show to me — they could do it inside the dressing room," he said.
The comments came after Como thrashed Leipzig 4-1 at the Stadio Sinigaglia in their first-ever Champions League fixture, with goals from Martin Baturina, Tasos Douvikas, Assane Diao and Maximo Perrone securing a statement win in their maiden appearance in the competition. Paz still played a role in the victory, teeing up Perrone's stoppage-time goal despite the below-par display Capello identified.
Capello, who won league titles as a manager in Italy, Spain and England during a career spanning Milan, Real Madrid, Roma and Juventus among others, has become a regular fixture on Italian television punditry in retirement, offering his verdict on Serie A and European fixtures each week. His praise for Como's attacking approach reflects the wider reaction to the club's rise, having returned to Serie A only in 2024 before securing Champions League qualification for the first time in their history this season under Fabregas.
Paz, for his part, arrived at the match still adapting to a heavy schedule following his permanent move from Real Madrid to Como over the summer, a transfer that closed with the Spanish club retaining an €80m buyback option.
Capello's assessment suggested the Argentine midfielder still has some way to go physically before matching the level he showed regularly last season.
