Sky Sport Germany's Florian Plettenberg confirmed that Brighton have reached a verbal agreement with the 18-year-old and moved to the front of the queue ahead of RB Leipzig, who have withdrawn from the race due to the cost of the deal.
AIK confirmed publicly that negotiations are under way with a club over the teenager's sale, though they did not name the buyer. The identity of that club, confirmed by multiple sources, is Brighton.
Yohanna joined AIK from Nigeria's Ikon Allah Football Academy in Kaduna — one of the country's most active talent pipelines — last summer, making the jump directly into Swedish top-flight football. He has since scored two goals and contributed three assists in seven Allsvenskan appearances this season, operating primarily on the right flank despite being naturally left-footed.
A thigh injury earlier in the season disrupted his momentum and led AIK to prevent him from joining Nigeria's squad during that period, but he has since returned to full fitness.
Brighton's recruitment model has consistently identified and developed young attacking talent at similar career stages — a pattern that makes Yohanna a characteristic signing. Fee negotiations with AIK are ongoing and a conclusion is expected in the coming days.
Yohanna is contracted with AIK until the end of the 2029 season.
