La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Bologna are interested in the 32-year-old, though a transfer is described as "difficult, but not impossible."
Tedesco, who previously managed RB Leipzig and Schalke, is said to be searching for a new box-to-box midfielder after losing the experienced Swiss international Remo Freuler, and sees Sabitzer's international experience as a good fit for the role.
Bologna reached the Europa League quarter-finals last season and have had good experiences with Austrian players before, including Stefan Posch and Marko Arnautovic.
Sabitzer has not necessarily been a key performer for Borussia Dortmund over the past two seasons, and it could prove difficult for the Austrian to get regular minutes in the coming campaign, with Felix Nmecha, 25, and Jobe Bellingham, 20, providing stiff competition in central midfield.
Sabitzer joined Dortmund from Bayern Munich in 2023 for around €19m and is reported to earn close to €7.5m a season, a salary that could complicate any move to Bologna, who would need to make significant financial efforts to match it. His contract in Dortmund runs out next summer, and the club is not believed to be planning an extension, meaning this could be Dortmund's last realistic chance to recoup a transfer fee for the midfielder before facing a free departure in 2027.
The Austria international arrived in Dortmund having previously spent half of the 2022-23 season on loan at Manchester United from Bayern, a spell curtailed by a knee injury, before United ultimately opted against making the move permanent.
He went on to help Dortmund reach the 2024 Champions League final in his first season at the club, playing a prominent role in the run before his influence gradually diminished as the squad evolved around him in the two campaigns since.
Whether the interest from Bologna develops into a concrete approach in the coming weeks remains to be seen, with no direct contact between the two clubs reported so far.
