Manuel Neuer, 40, and Sven Ulreich, 38, could both leave Bayern at the end of the season, with Jonas Urbig expected to be given the opportunity to establish himself as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper.
Bayern are looking for an experienced goalkeeper who could provide support for Urbig, and Leno has now been added to the names under consideration, according to Bild.
Finn Dahmen of Augsburg and Marvin Schwäbe of Cologne have also previously been linked with the role.
Leno, 34, is an established Bundesliga goalkeeper who has also spent the past eight years playing in England.
The German made 233 Bundesliga appearances for Bayer Leverkusen before joining Arsenal in 2018. He moved to Fulham in 2022 and has since established himself as the Premier League club’s regular goalkeeper.
Leno’s Fulham contract is due to expire, although the London club hold an option to extend his deal.
A return to Germany could appeal to the goalkeeper for personal reasons, with the report noting that a move to Bayern would allow him to live closer to his home region in Swabia.
His experience would also make him a different proposition to Urbig, who is 23 and is expected to be entrusted with the number one position.
Leno has nine Germany caps but has not been selected for the national team since October 2024.
He attracted headlines at the time after turning down a Germany call-up because he was only expected to serve as a substitute. He has not been called up since.
Whether Bayern Munich see Leno as the right goalkeeper to support Urbig remains to be decided, but his contract situation at Fulham could make the experienced former Arsenal player an option for the Munich club.
The goalkeeper has already spent much of his career at the highest level in Germany and England, while Bayern’s succession planning could open the door to a return to the Bundesliga.
