Sporting director Max Eberl confirmed the latest update after Bayern’s emphatic 6-1 Bundesliga victory over RB Leipzig. Musiala has missed the club’s last three matches with a muscle tear and will not be ready for the trip to London.
The 23-year-old suffered the injury in his right thigh while warming up for Germany’s Nations League fixture against the Netherlands in September. Bayern have since managed his recovery carefully, with the player returning to individual work on the pitch earlier this month.
His absence is a setback ahead of a significant European fixture, although Bayern have attacking options capable of compensating for his absence. Their victory over Leipzig offered a timely boost, with Luis Díaz scoring a hat-trick and Aleksandar Pavlović and Michael Olise also finding the net.
Musiala’s return later in October would give Vincent Kompany another important option during a demanding run of fixtures. Bayern have not set a precise comeback date, and his availability will depend on how he progresses through rehabilitation and training.
Kompany is also expected to be in the dugout against Arsenal despite his own fitness concerns. Eberl explained that the Belgian had been unwell throughout the week and was also struggling with a hip problem.
“He had been battling a virus all week. He was constantly taking vitamins. He really wasn’t feeling well, and then he also had problems with his hip,” Eberl said.
Kompany watched much of the Leipzig match from the bench while his assistants took on more of the touchline duties. However, Eberl expects him to be available for Wednesday’s Champions League fixture.
“He tried it and sat on the bench as normal today. It wasn’t a major problem either. We firmly expect that it won’t be a problem for Wednesday,” Eberl added.
Bayern Munich will therefore travel to face Arsenal without Musiala, but with some optimism over the midfielder’s recovery and their manager’s availability. The club’s priority remains ensuring Musiala returns fully fit rather than rushing him back for one match.
