Batrakov breaks silence on transfer rumours and admits PSG shirt photo was a joke

Russian midfielder Aleksey Batrakov has spoken publicly for the first time about the PSG transfer speculation surrounding him, describing the now-viral photo of him in a PSG shirt as a joke.

Batrakov, 20, gave an interview to Russian outlet Sport24.ru after weeks of contradictory reports — his agent Dmitry Cheltsov initially claimed a deal with PSG was "95 per cent" agreed at a price of €25m, only for Le Parisien to report days later that PSG had decided not to pursue the signing.

On the shirt photograph that generated widespread attention, the Lokomotiv Moscow midfielder was direct.

"It was a joke. These days, people talk too much about me and a possible transfer. I try to ignore it. Especially when people criticise me and write that I wouldn't deserve it. If something happens between the clubs, the agents inform me. But for now, being with the national team, I asked that nothing be said."

He did not deny his interest in the French champions, however. Asked about the Champions League final between PSG and Arsenal, he was candid.

"PSG. Especially because of Safonov. PSG is more interesting. I don't like Arsenal's style — they played very defensive football all season. The match scenario was therefore logical after Havertz's early goal. But it certainly wasn't boring."

He also praised PSG winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in generous terms.

"Khvicha's path speaks for itself — everyone has their chance. If you arrive in Europe, everything is in your hands. Khvicha is excellent, he shows exceptional quality."

Whether a PSG deal eventually materialises or was never close to completion remains unclear. The situation reflects the complexity of navigating transfer negotiations in the current environment, where agents, clubs and media often operate with different information and different agendas.
