Guillem Víctor has emerged as a potential solution to Barcelona's defensive problems after joining Hansi Flick's first-team training session ahead of Saturday's meeting with Deportivo Alavés.

The 19-year-old right-back was the main new face at Thursday's session, with Jules Kounde still recovering from an ankle injury and unlikely to feature this weekend.

The French international has not recovered sufficiently to return, leaving Flick short of defensive alternatives and increasing the possibility that Víctor could receive his first senior squad call-up.

Born in Sant Cugat on May 3, 2007, Víctor joined Barcelona's academy from Júnior CF in 2017. He is also the younger brother of former Barcelona forward Pau Víctor, who now plays for Portuguese side Sporting Braga.

He progressed through the club's youth system and began establishing himself with Juvenil A during the 2024-25 campaign, making 18 league appearances, three in the UEFA Youth League and two in the Copa del Rey.

He subsequently became one of the Juvenil A captains before making his Barcelona Atlètic debut.

Víctor has developed into an important member of the reserve side this season, starting and completing every minute of its previous seven matches.

His technical ability and versatility have attracted attention. Primarily a right-back, he is comfortable in possession and can also operate in midfield, particularly in an interior role where he can contribute to attacking movements.

This is not his first experience training with Barcelona's senior squad. Xavi Hernández previously invited him to work with the first team in 2023, while Flick has also included him in training sessions, including during the recent international break.

Víctor was not the only academy defender involved on Thursday. Centre-back Àlex Campos also trained with the senior players and remains in contention for selection after being included in the squads for Barcelona's previous two matches.

The 18-year-old's presence is particularly important given the absences of Eric García, Xavi Espart and Andreas Christensen, alongside Kounde.

Flick must therefore consider his available options carefully before naming the squad to face Alavés.

With several established defenders unavailable, Víctor has an opportunity to take another step towards the first team.
