La Gazzetta dello Sport reported the meeting this week will also involve Inter Milan representatives, with both clubs seeking clarity on whether a deal can be bridged before the summer window opens.
Bastoni is understood to have agreed in principle to a five-year contract at Barcelona until June 2031, but the transaction has stalled over the gap between Inter's valuation and Barcelona's financial capacity.
Former Inter, Lazio and Atlético Madrid striker Christian Vieri weighed in on the Italian debate over whether Bastoni is truly indispensable to the Nerazzurri.
"He has to decide with his heart and with his head. Nobody can put themselves in his place and whatever decision he makes will deserve everyone's respect."
Vieri added a philosophical perspective on the nature of squad building.
"He has been treated unfairly and he will make his own assessment. He is strategic for Inter, but there are no irreplaceable players. Even Messi left Barcelona."
Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio has publicly insisted no formal offer has arrived and that Bastoni remains contracted until 2028 — a position of strength the club are using to maintain their asking price. Barcelona are unable to enter a bidding war given their financial constraints and are exploring whether including a player in any deal could reduce the cash component.
Cristian Romero of Tottenham Hotspur is on Barcelona's list of alternatives should the Bastoni deal become unworkable. The Argentina international would cost significantly less. Bastoni has made clear Barcelona is the only club he would consider leaving Inter for — a position of loyalty that works against Barcelona's need for him to push harder for the move.
The meeting this week will determine how seriously Inter are willing to engage. The clubs and the player all want resolution before the summer window opens in June.
