Frimpong joined Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2025 but has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter since arriving in England.
The 25-year-old made 21 Premier League appearances during his first season at Liverpool, registering one assist. His involvement has been more limited this term, with two starts among his three league appearances so far.
Spanish journalist Juan Jesus has reported that Barcelona are monitoring Frimpong as they assess options at right-back. The Catalan club are also understood to be following Tottenham defender Pedro Porro.
Frimpong is reportedly open to joining Barcelona, while Liverpool are said to value the former Bayer Leverkusen player at around £35 million.
The Dutch international remains under contract at Anfield until 2030, meaning any move would require Liverpool to agree terms with Barcelona.
The interest reflects Frimpong’s attacking qualities, which made him one of Europe’s most highly regarded full-backs during his time at Bayer Leverkusen.
His move to Liverpool was expected to provide another step in his development, but injuries and competition for places have restricted his opportunities.
Liverpool have also undergone a managerial change, with Andoni Iraola taking charge in the summer, adding another variable to Frimpong’s position within the squad.
There has been no indication that Barcelona have made a formal offer, and the reported £35 million valuation comes from claims surrounding their interest rather than an agreed transfer.
Frimpong’s future could therefore become one to watch as the January window approaches, particularly if Barcelona decide to turn their reported interest into a concrete approach.
For Liverpool, any decision would have to balance the player’s limited current involvement against the long-term value of a defender contracted until 2030.
