Gerard Piqué is taking steps towards a potential career in football management, with the former Barcelona defender studying for his UEFA B-A coaching qualification in Andorra.

Piqué, who is the majority shareholder of FC Andorra and remains involved in the club's sporting decisions, has enrolled in a programme delivered by the Andorran Football Federation (FAF). The course is scheduled to finish in June 2027, opening the way for him to pursue coaching opportunities once he has completed the necessary requirements.

According to AS, Piqué is already preparing for the possibility of moving from the boardroom to the dugout. His involvement in FC Andorra has kept him close to the daily workings of professional football since his retirement as a player, and the coaching course represents a further step in that involvement.

The former Spain international is not undertaking the programme alone. Other former players are also participating, including Sergio Busquets, Thiago Alcántara, Santi Cazorla and Javi Martínez. The course has brought together experienced professionals looking to acquire the qualifications needed for a second career in the game.

The FAF programme began in October and comprises 580 hours of study, combining classroom teaching, practical sessions, applied learning and independent work. In-person teaching is organised into four blocks across the academic year.

The qualification has been designed to give former professionals with substantial experience at the highest level a route into coaching without first completing the UEFA C course. Places on the inaugural programme are limited, with applicants required to meet experience criteria involving top-level football within a UEFA or FIFA member federation.

Piqué's next career move remains to be determined. His position at FC Andorra gives him an established role in the club's direction, but completing the course would provide another option within the sport.

The 39-year-old retired in 2022 after a decorated playing career with Barcelona and Spain. He won multiple major honours, including the World Cup and European Championship with Spain, as well as the Champions League with Barcelona.

His coaching studies do not confirm that he will immediately take charge of a team, but they indicate that he is preparing for the possibility of becoming a manager rather than remaining exclusively on the ownership and executive side of football.
