Atletico Madrid have moved to protect one of their brightest academy prospects, confirming a new contract for Romeo Hueso that runs until 30 June 2029.

The full-back, who joined the club's youth setup in 2023, becomes the latest highly rated graduate of La Academia to have his future secured by the Rojiblancos.

Hueso made no attempt to hide his delight after putting pen to paper: "I'm really happy and excited to keep playing for this club. I want to keep improving individually and help the team achieve its goals."

The new deal follows a breakthrough campaign for the teenager, who stepped up to Atletico Madrileño and made ten appearances in Primera RFEF, splitting his season between the reserve side and Atleti C, whom he helped win promotion to Segunda RFEF, as well as turning out for the Juvenil A side in the Youth League.

Born in Xativa on 3 April 2007, Hueso primarily operates as a right-back and has already been capped at international youth level, having featured for Spain's under-18s.

His versatility has been central to his rise through the ranks. Comfortable as a full-back, wing-back or in more advanced positions, Hueso has become one of the standout names to emerge from Atletico's academy system in recent seasons. The reward for that development is not limited to the new contract, either, with the defender set to train with Diego Simeone's first-team squad throughout pre-season.

The move fits a pattern Atletico Madrid have followed closely in recent years, tying down promising young players before they make the step up to senior football. Barely two years after arriving from outside the club's youth system in 2023, Hueso has already progressed through the Juvenil A, Atleti C and Atletico Madrileño, gaining experience across three different age groups and competitions in a single campaign. The club has already secured the long-term futures of several other academy graduates, and Hueso is now viewed as one of the names expected to follow that same path toward the first team.

At just 19, his new contract underlines the level of trust the sporting department has placed in a player already knocking on the door of Simeone's first team, and gives Atletico Madrid protection over his rights for the next three years should bigger clubs come calling.
