According to L’Équipe, both Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest explored the possibility of signing the midfielder during the most recent transfer window.
Atangana ultimately remained with Al-Ahli, where he has continued his development after becoming one of several young French players to move to the Saudi Pro League.
The midfielder believes his spell in Saudi Arabia can act as a stepping stone towards a return to Europe and potentially a move to one of the continent’s leading clubs.
Speaking during the current international break, Atangana described the Saudi Pro League as a “trampoline” for his career.
His ambitions extend beyond club football, with the midfielder also targeting a place in the France senior squad.

His continued involvement with France Under-21s means he remains on the radar of clubs in Europe, while his performances in Saudi Arabia could determine whether further interest develops.
