Ødegaard's superb strike off the post gave Arsenal a 1-0 win away to Napoli, extending Mikel Arteta's side's remarkable run to 13 consecutive league-stage victories in Europe. Arteta felt the scoreline undersold a dominant display in stifling heat at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.
"Very, very happy, the way we attacked the game from the very first minute, the way we competed, the excitement that we had, how we had to disorganise them, the purpose, the quality, the amount of chances that we generated," Arteta said.
"For sure, again, the scoreline has to reflect a very different result. We will get there, because if we are a bit more precise, it will be much bigger, but to do what we've done today in this stadium against this opponent is remarkable from the team."
Asked whether his side needed to be more clinical, Arteta pushed back on the framing.
"The reality is that they score one in every five or six shots on target. That's being clinical. So, if we generate more volume, we will score more goals," he said, adding he had been pleased by how many different players got into scoring positions despite the single goal.
Arteta was delighted with his captain's contribution.
"That's what we need, the players with that mindset to decide the game, and to play with that personality... He's getting into those positions much more in recent games, and now you feel he has this emotional state that he knows that the ball can go in, and he scored an incredible goal tonight," he said, confirming he has set Ødegaard a simple target. "Goals every week, every game goals, that's the target."
The head coach also praised his side's ability to keep probing a well-drilled Napoli defence.
"Playing to the players' qualities and try to understand whether the opponent can have certain weaknesses or misjudgements and try to exploit them time after time... it's complicated but it's very much doable because of the quality of the players that we have," he said, crediting the hunger of every individual for extending the winning run in Europe.
Arteta also reflected warmly on facing Kevin De Bruyne, who almost snatched a late equaliser for Napoli.
"If there is a player in Napoli that is one of my favourite-ever players, that is Kevin De Bruyne, who I had the luxury to train and to be with him for almost four years. In my opinion, he is one of the best midfielders ever and still a joy to watch him play," he said.
