The England international pulled up with a quadriceps problem and left the pitch limping, although he did not need crutches. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said after the match that the initial signs were concerning, but the extent of the injury would not be known until the player had been assessed.
“A player who has to come off with a really sharp pain is never good news,” Arteta said. “It doesn’t look good at all, but we have to wait and see.”
Saka was due to undergo a scan on Thursday, with the results expected to clarify whether he faces a longer spell out. According to The Sun, Arsenal stayed overnight in Munich because air-traffic restrictions prevented them from flying home late after the match. The squad were given Thursday off before returning to training on Friday.
Any absence would leave Arteta with fewer options out wide. Christos Tzolis is also sidelined after suffering a hamstring injury while on international duty with Greece, leaving Arsenal short of established wingers ahead of Saturday’s Premier League meeting with Everton.
Eberechi Eze, who came on for Saka and scored Arsenal’s opening goal in Munich, is in line for a role on the wing. Noni Madueke is another option, while 16-year-old Max Dowman could be considered for minutes from the bench.
Dowman has already made history against Everton. His goal against them last season made him the youngest scorer in Premier League history, at 16 years and 73 days.
Saka’s fitness will be especially important given his role in Arsenal’s attack and the demands of the schedule. He had started the club’s recent matches and was forced to withdraw early in a high-intensity European contest, leaving the medical staff to determine the severity of the problem.
Arsenal secured a point in Munich through Declan Rice’s late equaliser, but the result was overshadowed by the injury concern. No reliable return timeline had been confirmed in the latest reports available on Friday.
