Al-Hilal open talks over sensational move for Bayern star Harry Kane

Bayern Munich

Al-Hilal have entered the race for Harry Kane, with the Saudi Pro League club opening negotiations with the Bayern Munich striker's representatives over a possible summer move, according to Sky journalist Sacha Tavolieri.

The talks are said to be at an early, exploratory stage, and Al-Hilal are yet to make any contact with Bayern Munich themselves. Kane, for his part, has not reached a decision on his future.

The England captain has 12 months remaining on the contract he signed when he left Tottenham for Bavaria in 2023, though Bayern have made no secret of their desire to extend his stay. Barcelona are among the clubs to have shown interest in recent months, but the 32-year-old is happy in Germany.

Kane's deal contains a โ‚ฌ65m release clause, although he would have needed to trigger it last winter for it to take effect. Reports in Germany have previously cast doubt on whether the clause remains valid at all, with Bayern president Uli Hoeness insisting earlier this year that it had already expired.

Whatever happens next, his time in Munich has been prolific. Since completing his switch from Spurs, Kane has racked up 146 goals and 33 assists in 147 competitive appearances for the German giants, cementing his standing as one of the most reliable goalscorers in world football.

Al-Hilal will hope the sporting project and the financial rewards on offer in Saudi Arabia prove tempting, but any deal would require Kane to walk away from a club where he has finally added silverware to his individual honours, and where the hierarchy are pushing to keep him.

For now, the striker's attention is fixed firmly on the World Cup. Kane has scored 85 goals in 120 appearances for England, and his country remain firmly in the hunt for the trophy, facing Argentina in Wednesday's semi-final.

A statement performance on the biggest stage of all would do his value no harm whatsoever, and the outcome of England's campaign may yet shape the timing of any decision on where the 32-year-old plays his football next season.
