AC Milan have structured the move as a paid loan worth around €4m, with a non-mandatory option to make the deal permanent for a further €40m next summer, according to Sky Sport Italia. The agreement, confirmed by the club on Monday, runs until 30 June 2027.
The switch ends a torrid first season at Nottingham Forest for Hutchinson, who arrived at the City Ground just 12 months ago in a £37.5m club-record deal from Ipswich Town. He managed only 17 Premier League starts across a campaign in which Forest cycled through four different head coaches, and he was frozen out entirely under most recent boss Oliver Glasner.
Ruben Amorim, who took over at San Siro this summer after his spell at Manchester United, pushed for the move as Milan sought a replacement for Rafael Leão following the Portuguese forward's exit to Galatasaray. The Rossoneri, who also brought in Gonçalo Ramos from Paris Saint-Germain and Diego Moreira from Strasbourg this window, will have Hutchinson available for Serie A duty almost immediately.
Hutchinson began his career at Chelsea before switching to Arsenal, where he signed his first professional contract in 2020. He returned to Stamford Bridge in 2022, making two senior appearances for the Blues before a loan to Ipswich Town the following year turned into a permanent switch once he had helped fire the Tractor Boys back into the Premier League.
Born in Redhill and holding dual English and Jamaican nationality, Hutchinson has been registered by Milan under his full name, Omari Elijah Giraud-Hutchinson.
His breakthrough continued on the international stage. Hutchinson started six of England's seven matches at the Under-21 European Championship in the summer of 2025, scoring in the final as Lee Carsley's side retained their title.
At Milan, the 22-year-old will wear the number 20 shirt for a club aiming to close the gap on Serie A's front-runners. Whether he can force his way into Amorim's plans immediately remains to be seen, but for a player who managed just 42 appearances and one goal in an injury-hit and managerially chaotic year at Forest, regular football in Italy may be exactly what his career needs.
