Yan Diomande has completed the final formality of his move to Real Madrid, taking part in a low-key official welcome at the club's training complex that mirrored how Los Blancos have handled every arrival this summer.
There was no packed Santiago Bernabéu and no grand ceremony — just a private reception at the Ciudad Real Madrid, in keeping with the model the club has applied to all of its incoming signings during the window.
President Florentino Pérez received the Ivorian forward in the boardroom, where Diomande signed the contract that will bind him to the club for seven seasons, until 30 June 2033. After putting pen to paper, he was handed the traditional gifts given to new arrivals: a replica of the stadium, a watch and a shirt bearing his name and number 25, which he had already worn in Real Madrid's opening league fixture and in their final pre-season friendly. Honorary club president José Martínez "Pirri" also attended the reception.
The 19-year-old did not hide his emotion at formally becoming a Real Madrid player.
"I'm proud, because this is the biggest club in the world," he said. "Nowadays, everyone dreams of playing for Real Madrid, and I'm going to give everything."
Diomande, who arrived from RB Leipzig in a deal reported at around €130m — a fee that makes him the most expensive signing in the club's history — acknowledged the scale of the opportunity in front of him.
"Being coached by the best manager in the world (Jose Mourinho) and sharing a dressing room with the best players in the world is incredible," he added. Looking ahead to silverware, the young forward set no limits on his ambition.
"Seeing all these trophies makes you excited to win another one. It's really exciting to compete in LaLiga and the Champions League and try to win them — and why not start this very year?"
At 19, Diomande now faces the task of justifying Madrid's record outlay on the pitch, arriving on the back of a breakout World Cup that turned him into one of the most sought-after wingers in Europe.
