Speaking to Mundo Deportivo, the 18-year-old made no secret of his enthusiasm for a deal that has become one of the most contentious sagas of the transfer window.
"Everyone knows he's a top player, of the kind everyone wants to have. I've already said it: we have our arms open and, if he comes, we will all be very happy," Yamal said.
"I think he's a player who fits really well with Barca's style. I have no idea how the situation stands, but I hope it happens."
Alvarez has made his own desire to leave Atletico clear after two seasons under Diego Simeone, telling reporters following Argentina's World Cup win over Austria that he believed leaving would be "best for everyone" involved at the club.
Barcelona are widely seen as his preferred destination, though Atletico have made their frustration with the situation public, with chief executive Miguel Angel Gil Marin accusing Barcelona of disrespecting the club with their approach and threatening to report them to Fifa over their handling of the pursuit.
Real Madrid also had a โฌ150m bid for Alvarez turned down earlier this month, with Atletico mocking the offer in a public statement. The Argentine's release clause is reported to sit at around โฌ500m, but with the player himself pushing for an exit, Atletico Madrid may ultimately be forced to negotiate a fee well below that figure if they are to avoid a prolonged and increasingly public standoff.
Yamal's comments are not the first time he has publicly courted Alvarez, having previously told Cadena SER he would love to play alongside him and that Barcelona represented "the best club in the world" for the striker to join.
Barcelona sporting director Deco is known to be a keen admirer of Alvarez, though the club's tight financial situation means funding a deal remains a significant obstacle regardless of the player's willingness to move.
Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain have also been credited with interest, but for now Barcelona appear to be the frontrunners, helped in no small part by the increasingly vocal backing of the club's dressing room.
