Venezia FC have decided against sacking Giovanni Stroppa after several days of deliberation, resisting the speculation of recent days over possible replacements.
The head coach will now use the international break to try to reverse a run of results that has left his side bottom of Serie A without a point.
Venezia remain winless despite performances that arguably deserved more, and Saturday's defeat to Lazio was a particularly bitter one, with a missed penalty and several clear chances squandered in attack.
There were signs of progress defensively after Juan Jesus was introduced and adjustments were made at the back, with Venezia conceding far less than they had against Fiorentina the previous week. But missed opportunities, including a penalty spurned by Yeboah and chances wasted by Adams in particular, saw the team collapse in the second half.
Several names had circulated in recent days as possible successors to Stroppa, from Roberto D'Aversa to Igor Tudor, and Paolo Zanetti to Alberto Gilardino. None of them will take over: Stroppa has been given more time to fix the situation and prove that his squad can still be saved from relegation.
He had made his own case for keeping his job after the Lazio defeat, arguing that the league table did not reflect the work being done on the pitch.
Venezia's next match after the break is away to Atalanta on 12 October, giving Stroppa three weeks to work with his squad before facing the reality of the table again.
