Van Persie, speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of Sunday's Eredivisie fixture against Fortuna Sittard, praised Read's character as much as his ability — and the bond between the two goes back years, with the pair having known each other since their youth.
"Everyone knows what I think about Read. We have known each other since our youth days. As a person, I think he is a really great example of how you can always remain yourself, no matter what happens or how well you are performing."
He was equally admiring of the teenager's consistency off the pitch.
"He is still exactly the same boy as he was three years ago. You see some players change because of status or money, but that is absolutely not the case with Givi. I think that is really great to see."
Van Persie left no doubt about his view of Read's readiness for the next level.
"As a player, he is making huge strides and is simply a fantastic player. I certainly think he can make that step."
Read joined Feyenoord's academy from FC Volendam in 2023 and broke into the senior squad the following year, becoming one of the most eye-catching young right-backs in European football. His current contract runs until June 2029 and contains no release clause, which has given Feyenoord a strong hand in negotiations.
Bayern Munich have tracked Read for some time and were the first major club to hold serious discussions, but progress has stalled. According to Sport Bild journalist Christian Falk, Bayern are unwilling to pay more than €30 million and Feyenoord's demands exceed that figure. In response, Bayern are now pushing to accelerate talks before Manchester City can make a decisive move.
City's interest was confirmed by Sky Sports journalist Lyall Thomas, who reported that the Premier League club are closely monitoring Read as they look to address their right-back position following Kyle Walker's departure. Rico Lewis has filled in for much of this season but the club want a specialist in the role long term. City's greater financial flexibility compared to Bayern means Feyenoord's asking price is less likely to deter them.
Read has made 16 appearances this season after a hamstring injury disrupted his campaign. Despite that setback, the level of interest in him has not diminished. Feyenoord have no intention of selling below their valuation, and with two of the most powerful clubs in European football now competing for the same player, the price is likely to move only in one direction.
