Dayot Upamecano has tipped Michael Olise for Ballon d'Or glory after the winger delivered a stunning display in Bayern Munich's 2-1 Champions League quarter-final first leg win at Real Madrid on Tuesday night.

Olise provided the assist for Harry Kane's goal — struck 20 seconds into the second half to double Bayern's lead at the Santiago Bernabéu — and was central to everything the German champions did going forward in a performance that announced him as one of European football's true standout talents.

"He can make the difference at any time," said Upamecano on Canal+. "He's an incredible player, but above all, he's incredibly hungry.

"Off the pitch, he's a person like me — he's a hard worker. If he continues like this, he could become a football legend. The Ballon d'Or? In the future, yes."

The result was historic for Bayern. It was their first win at the Bernabéu since 2001 and their first victory over Real Madrid in any competition since 2012. Luis Díaz had given them the lead just before half-time before Kane doubled it early in the second period. Kylian Mbappé pulled one back for Madrid in the 74th minute, but Vincent Kompany's side held on — Manuel Neuer making nine saves in total — to carry a slender advantage into the second leg in Munich next Wednesday.

For Olise, the numbers this season have been extraordinary. The 24-year-old has 16 goals and 28 assists in 40 appearances across all competitions — figures that already have Europe's biggest clubs monitoring him closely, with Real Madrid, Liverpool and Manchester City all linked. Bayern are working on a contract extension to keep him at the Allianz Arena beyond 2029, and on evidence like Tuesday's, it is easy to understand why they are so determined to hold on.
