The Athletic reported that talks between Tottenham and Senesi's camp have reached an advanced stage, with an agreement in principle close to being finalised on personal terms. Roberto De Zerbi is planning a significant defensive overhaul and the Bournemouth centre-back is viewed as an ideal addition — he ranks third in the Premier League for interceptions this season and is available for nothing when his contract expires in June.
Senesi, 28, wants to resolve his future before the World Cup in North America this summer. He has told Bournemouth he will not be signing a new deal and is considering several options. Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United have all been in contact with his representatives, and Juventus have made a formal offer reported at €3 million per season. Tottenham are believed to be offering considerably more, reportedly around €4 million annually.
The stumbling block is Spurs' precarious league position. Tottenham are currently in the relegation zone, two points from safety, without a Premier League win since late December. Senesi has made clear he has no intention of dropping to the Championship, meaning the deal's viability is entirely dependent on De Zerbi's side surviving the final five games of the season.
The potential arrival of Senesi would form part of a wider defensive rebuild. Cristian Romero, the current first-choice centre-back and Argentina international, is expected to seek a move to a Champions League club in the summer. Micky van de Ven's future is also uncertain amid outside interest.
Tottenham have separately reached a verbal agreement with Andy Robertson, who will leave Liverpool on a free transfer at the end of the season.
