Youri Tielemans has publicly backed Michael Carrick to remain Manchester United manager, insisting that the squad does not want another change in the dugout as the club struggles for results.

Manchester United have endured a difficult start to the season, sitting 16th in the Premier League and suffering a 4-1 defeat against Como in the Champions League. The pressure on Carrick has increased, but Tielemans believes replacing the head coach would create further disruption at a time when the team needs stability.

The Belgium international joined United from Aston Villa during the summer and revealed that Carrick was an important factor in his decision to move to Old Trafford.

“I came here partly because of him, because he wanted me here. He wanted me to help the team,” Tielemans told TNT Sports.

The midfielder is therefore pleased that Carrick has retained his position despite the disappointing results.

“So I am very happy that he is staying, and the whole group feels the same. We do not want a sudden change,” he said.

Tielemans believes another major alteration to the club’s leadership would risk making an already difficult situation worse. Instead, he wants the players to remain together, work through their problems and give the current manager time to turn things around.

“We do not want a big change that is going to disrupt things more than they already are. We just need stability, we need to keep working hard, and it is going to turn at some point,” he added.

His comments offer public support for Carrick at a time when United have been under pressure following successive heavy defeats. The club’s position in the league has increased scrutiny of the manager, while the Champions League loss to Como added to the concerns surrounding performances.

Tielemans’ intervention also highlights the personal relationship between the midfielder and Carrick. The manager wanted him at Old Trafford, and the player has made clear that he believes the current coaching arrangement should be given the opportunity to succeed.

United now have an immediate chance to respond when they face Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday. A positive result would help ease the pressure, but Tielemans’ message is that the squad must focus on collective improvement rather than another change of manager.
