Salah left Liverpool by mutual consent at the end of last season, with the two parties agreeing to terminate his contract early despite the winger having been under agreement until the summer of 2027.
He departed Anfield having scored 257 goals and provided 123 assists in 442 competitive appearances since joining from Roma in 2017, but has yet to confirm his next destination, with speculation intensifying following Egypt's World Cup elimination at the hands of Argentina in the round of 16.
Sporting KC's interest is said to be strong, with the Athletic reporting that the Saudi Pro League remains the far more likely destination given the financial package on offer there. Salah, though, is understood to prefer staying in Europe above all else, with a move to MLS considered his next preference ahead of Saudi Arabia should a suitable European club fail to emerge.
Sporting KC are seen as best placed among any MLS side to complete a deal should Salah opt for a move to North America this summer.
The Kansas City club's majority owner, Peter Mallouk, has Egyptian roots, a factor that has fuelled speculation about a potential connection, though the American has stopped short of confirming direct talks, instead posting online that the club would be "significantly better in the second half" of the season regardless of the outcome.
Sporting KC, who currently sit bottom of the MLS Western Conference, are also working on deals for Toulouse winger Yann Gboho and Olympiacos winger Andre Luiz as they look to overhaul their roster under new football boss David Lee, with both moves reported to be worth between $18million and $20million.
Salah endured a difficult final campaign at Liverpool by his own lofty standards, managing seven goals and seven assists in 2,150 Premier League minutes, a sharp decline from the 29 goals and 18 assists he registered during the club's title-winning season the year before.
Should he move to MLS, Salah would follow a growing list of established stars to have switched to North America recently, including Antoine Griezmann, Thomas Muller and Robert Lewandowski.
